PM Shehbaz, Iranian President Pezeshkian discuss regional situation, reaffirm commitment to peace process

ISLAMABAD, Sunday, April 29, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with His Excellency Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, this evening.

During their warm and cordial exchange, which lasted around forty-five minutes, the two leaders discussed in detail the evolving regional situation.

The Prime Minister thanked President Pezeshkian and the Iranian leadership for sending a high-powered delegation, led by Honorable Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, for talks held in Islamabad on April 11–12, 2026.

The Prime Minister also briefed the Iranian President on his recent interactions with several world leaders, including the leadership of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye. He said these engagements had been helpful in building broader consensus in support of a sustained process of dialogue and diplomacy aimed at achieving lasting peace in the conflict-affected region.

He further appreciated the constructive exchanges between the Iranian leadership and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during the latter’s recent visit to Tehran.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, the Prime Minister said that, with the support of friendly countries and partners, Pakistan would continue its sincere and consistent efforts to advance regional peace and security. He also conveyed his respectful regards for the Supreme Leader of Iran, His Eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

President Pezeshkian, in response, thanked the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for Pakistan’s strong commitment to supporting peace efforts, and expressed confidence that Iran-Pakistan relations would continue to strengthen further in the coming days.
