President Zardari arrives in Najaf, meets governor; set to visit holy shrines in Najaf, Karbala

NAJAF, Monday, December 22, 2025 (WNP): President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in the holy city of Najaf on Monday as part of his official visit to Iraq, where he was received by Najaf Governor Yousuf Makki Kanawi.

Upon arrival at Najaf International Airport, the President held a brief meeting with the Governor, during which matters of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation were discussed.

The exchange reflected the cordial ties between Pakistan and Iraq and underscored the importance both sides attach to strengthening people-to-people and institutional links.

During his stay in Iraq, President Zardari is scheduled to visit the revered holy shrines in Najaf and Karbala, where he will pay homage and offer prayers. The visits carry religious significance and highlight Pakistan’s respect for Iraq’s spiritual heritage, particularly for sites held in deep reverence by millions of Muslims around the world.

The visit forms part of President Zardari’s broader engagement with Iraqi leadership aimed at deepening bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors, and reinforcing cultural and religious bonds between the two brotherly nations.
