PM Shehbaz, Chinese Envoy reaffirm strategic partnership, pledge to advance CPEC 2.0, regional stability

ISLAMABAD, Thursday, March 26, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with China, as Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong called on him at the Prime Minister’s House.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and the Foreign Secretary were also present during the meeting.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Chinese leadership on the successful conclusion of the “Two Sessions” and conveyed gratitude to President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for their warm greetings on Pakistan Day.

Appreciating China’s continued economic support, Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to advance the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0), with a focus on agriculture, industrial cooperation, and priority infrastructure development.

Ambassador Jiang commended Pakistan’s economic resilience and ongoing reform efforts, reiterating Beijing’s firm support, particularly in the areas of trade and investment. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and ongoing high-level exchanges.

They also looked forward to further engagements to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, underscoring the enduring strength of ties between the two countries.

Discussing the regional situation, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting de-escalation and regional stability, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy.

He stressed the need for continued close coordination between Islamabad and Beijing on issues of mutual interest, reaffirming the enduring nature of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

The meeting reflects the continued momentum in bilateral engagement as both countries seek to expand cooperation across economic, strategic, and regional domains.
