PM, MWL Secretary General reaffirm commitment to Muslim unity, peace, education and interfaith harmony

ISLAMABAD, Monday, July 13, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, on Monday reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in promoting Muslim unity, religious moderation, education, humanitarian initiatives and global peace during a meeting at the Prime Minister House.

Dr. Al-Issa called on the Prime Minister following his participation in the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, held in Islamabad from July 12 to 13.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Members of the National Assembly Farah Naz Akbar and Zeb Jaffar, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, and members of the MWL delegation were also present during the meeting.

Welcoming the visiting dignitary, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Dr. Al-Issa for attending the OIC ministerial conference and appreciated the Muslim World League’s significant global role in promoting the true and moderate values of Islam, strengthening unity among the Muslim Ummah, and advancing the principles of tolerance, fraternity and interfaith harmony.

The Prime Minister commended Dr. Al-Issa’s visionary leadership in expanding the League’s international outreach and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for the organization’s initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue, moderation and peaceful coexistence.

Highlighting the challenges confronting the Muslim world, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of the Muslim World League’s advocacy for religious dialogue and collective engagement in addressing regional and international issues, including the evolving situation involving Iran and the Gulf region, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and other challenges facing Muslim communities worldwide.

Recalling Dr. Al-Issa’s previous visits to Pakistan, the Prime Minister appreciated his valuable contributions, particularly the successful organization of the International Summit on Girls’ Education in Islamabad, and expressed satisfaction over the growing cooperation between Pakistan and the Muslim World League in the fields of education, interfaith dialogue, countering extremism and combating Islamophobia.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed his respectful greetings to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and extended his best wishes to Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Dr. Al-Issa thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation and praised Pakistan’s constructive leadership within the Muslim world. He reaffirmed the Muslim World League’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan across religious, educational, humanitarian and social development sectors.

The MWL Secretary General also commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his leadership in recent regional peace efforts and expressed appreciation for the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in facilitating the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, describing their efforts as an important contribution to regional peace and dialogue.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining close coordination on issues of mutual interest and accelerating the implementation of ongoing joint initiatives between Pakistan and the Muslim World League in support of peace, education, humanitarian cooperation, interfaith harmony and the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
