BEIJING, Tuesday, March 31, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan and China on Tuesday unveiled a five-point joint initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East region following high-level talks in Beijing.

The initiative was presented after a meeting between China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, where both sides reviewed the evolving regional situation.

According to the joint statement, the two countries called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, urging all parties to prevent further escalation and ensure unhindered humanitarian assistance to affected areas.

They also emphasized the early resumption of peace talks, stressing that sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence of regional states, including Iran and Gulf countries, must be respected. Both sides underlined that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving conflicts.

The initiative further highlighted the protection of civilians and non-military targets, calling on all parties to adhere strictly to international humanitarian law and refrain from attacks on critical infrastructure, including energy and nuclear facilities.

On maritime security, Pakistan and China underscored the importance of safeguarding shipping lanes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, urging measures to ensure safe passage of civilian and commercial vessels and the early normalization of maritime routes.

Finally, both countries reaffirmed the primacy of the United Nations Charter, calling for strengthened multilateral efforts to establish a comprehensive peace framework based on international law and the principles of the United Nations.

The joint initiative reflects growing diplomatic engagement by Pakistan and China to de-escalate tensions and promote long-term stability in a region facing heightened uncertainty.
