CAIRO, Friday, June 20, 2025 (WNP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Aamer Shouket, met with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, in Cairo on Friday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the renowned Islamic institution.

In a statement shared by the Pakistani Embassy on social media platform X, Ambassador Shouket underscored the deep reverence Pakistanis hold for Al-Azhar University, praising its pivotal role in shaping moderate Islamic thought and offering quality religious education to students from around the world, including Pakistan.

The ambassador expressed gratitude for Al-Azhar’s continued academic support to Pakistani scholars and welcomed its historic educational ties with the country. He emphasized Pakistan’s interest in deepening this relationship, particularly through joint academic initiatives.

Both sides explored possibilities to broaden the scope of cooperation beyond religious education. Discussions included potential collaboration in scientific research, medical studies, and technical education, along with expanding student exchange programs and institutional linkages.

The meeting reflects a mutual commitment to strengthening academic and cultural ties between Pakistan and Al-Azhar, one of the world’s oldest and most respected centers of Islamic learning.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Aamir Shouket visited the iconic Naguib Mahfouz Studio in Cairo to discuss media collaboration and cultural exchange with renowned Egyptian writer and head of the National Media Authority, Ahmed Al-Muslimani.

According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Pakistan in Cairo on platform X, the meeting focused on expanding bilateral cultural ties, particularly through the translation and dubbing of popular Egyptian television dramas into Urdu—Pakistan’s national language and one of the most widely spoken languages globally.

This initiative aligns with Egypt’s vision to broaden its cultural outreach and engage audiences across the region. Ambassador Shouket welcomed the proposal and suggested that the Urdu-dubbed content be broadcast on Pakistan’s national television, emphasizing the power of storytelling in fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.

Highlighting the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Egypt, Ambassador Shouket praised the Egyptian government’s continued efforts in promoting regional peace and prosperity. He also expressed appreciation for the symbolic setting of the studio, which offers panoramic views of the Nile River and the Pyramids—monuments emblematic of Egypt’s rich heritage.

As a gesture of goodwill, Ahmed Al-Muslimani presented the ambassador with a classic music album of the legendary Egyptian singer, Umm Kulthum—revered as the “Star of the East”—produced by the Cairo Voice Company under the National Media Authority.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening media cooperation and cultural dialogue between Pakistan and Egypt.
