ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, May 28, 2025 (WNP): A brave officer of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police embraced martyrdom while another was seriously injured during a late-night encounter with armed robbers near the Faizabad Metro Station, underscoring the police force’s unwavering commitment to public safety.
The incident unfolded when a team from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad Police launched a targeted operation to apprehend a notorious gang of robbers operating in the capital. As the team closed in, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire from multiple directions, prompting a fierce and courageous response from the police.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sudheer Ahmed Abbasi was martyred during the exchange of fire, making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Constable Jaffar Jahangir sustained serious injuries and is currently under intensive medical care at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Islamabad Police, under the supervision of three senior SSPs, launched a district-wide search and cordoned off the surrounding areas to track down the assailants. Authorities have vowed to bring all culprits involved to justice without delay.
Late Tuesday night, Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Sahibzada Yousaf, DIG Operations Syed Tariq, and other senior officers visited PIMS to inquire about the injured officer and instructed the hospital administration to provide the best possible treatment.
The funeral prayer for ASI Sudheer Ahmed Abbasi was offered with full police honors at Police Lines Headquarters. Senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, high-ranking police officials, and members of the district administration, attended the solemn ceremony. A salute was presented to the martyred officer, and his body was sent with official protocol to his native village, Thullah in Abbottabad, where he will be laid to rest with full state honors.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, paid rich tribute to the martyred officer, describing him as a fearless and professional investigator who exemplified courage by confronting armed criminals without hesitation.
“ASI Sudheer Ahmed Abbasi’s bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten. He stood firm against danger and upheld the values of duty and service. Islamabad Police stands firmly with his family and will ensure they receive full institutional support,” IGP Rizvi stated.
The IGP also emphasized that every officer in the Islamabad Police remains committed to their oath and is ready to sacrifice their lives to protect the citizens. He reaffirmed that three senior SSPs are currently overseeing the operation to arrest the culprits.
“The entire force is united in honoring our martyred hero. His supreme sacrifice will not go in vain. We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice,” he added.
The martyrdom of ASI Sudheer Ahmed Abbasi is a stark reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face every day and the courage with which they carry out their duties. The Islamabad Police remain resolute in their mission to safeguard the capital and its citizens.
