Islamabad, Dhaka to become sister cities as Pakistan, Bangladesh explore new cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Monday, August 18, 2025 (WNP): Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Monday met with Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Khan to discuss the establishment of sister-city ties between Islamabad and Dhaka, opening the door for expanded bilateral cooperation.

Randhawa highlighted the importance of further strengthening the brotherly and friendly relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, noting that a sister-city partnership could create new opportunities in urban development, environment, and civic management.

“Pakistan holds Bangladesh in high regard, and CDA is fully committed to supporting the establishment of sister-city relations between Islamabad and Dhaka,” he said.

The Bangladeshi envoy lauded Islamabad’s ongoing infrastructure upgrades, flood management systems, and environmental initiatives, expressing his government’s interest in contributing to joint projects such as the capital’s tree plantation campaign.
“We are determined to further strengthen the ties between our two nations and actively participate in initiatives that benefit our people,” he remarked.

During the talks, Randhawa briefed the envoy on Islamabad’s road network improvements, monsoon drainage measures, and sustainability projects. Both sides agreed that closer cooperation between the two capitals would bring tangible benefits to citizens.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from Pakistan and Bangladesh to advance the memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at formalizing the Islamabad–Dhaka sister-city relationship.
