ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, June 23, 2026 (WNP): President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday on a state visit to Pakistan, accompanied by Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and a high-level Iranian delegation.
President Pezeshkian received a warm and ceremonial welcome upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, where he was accorded a 21-gun salute in honour of his visit. Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder fighter jets escorted the presidential aircraft and performed a ceremonial aerial salute as it entered Pakistani airspace.
Pakistan’s First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were among the senior dignitaries present at the airport to receive the Iranian president and his accompanying delegation.
The state visit underscores the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, founded on shared history, faith, culture and close people-to-people ties.
During his stay in Islamabad, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership to discuss bilateral relations, expand cooperation in trade, connectivity, energy and regional security, and exchange views on key regional and international developments.
The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to Pakistan-Iran relations and further strengthen strategic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
