ISLAMABAD, Sunday, April 26, 2026 (WNP): Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, on Sunday paid tribute to Ali Larijani on the 40th-day memorial anniversary (Chehelom) of his martyrdom, describing him as a distinguished statesman, philosopher and a symbol of rational and pragmatic politics.
In a statement, the ambassador said the late Larijani, who served as Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, remained a prominent figure in the Islamic Republic of Iran and was widely recognized internationally, including in Pakistan, for his diplomatic acumen and intellectual depth.
He noted that Larijani’s personality transcended conventional political roles, portraying him as a rationalist thinker who embodied moderation, principled engagement and strategic foresight. “He was not only an executive and security official but also a philosopher whose pragmatic approach helped bridge diverse and at times conflicting perspectives,” the envoy remarked.
Terming his assassination a “cowardly and heinous act,” the ambassador said the killing represented an attack on rational and pragmatic political thought. He alleged that the act reflected a dangerous trend rooted in hostility towards Iran’s principled diplomacy.
The envoy further stated that the assassination underscored what he described as deep-seated animosity of international Zionism towards Iran’s dignified and rational diplomatic posture.
Reaffirming respect for the late leader, the ambassador said Larijani’s legacy would continue to inspire principled political engagement and intellectual discourse.
