ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, April 21, 2026 (WNP): Iran has signaled readiness to resume negotiations with the United States, contingent upon the lifting of Washington’s naval blockade, Iranian UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said.
According to media reports, Iravani stated that Tehran is prepared to engage in talks “immediately” once the United States ends its blockade and halts what he described as violations of the existing ceasefire.
He emphasized that lifting the blockade remains a key precondition for any diplomatic progress, noting that Iran has received indications suggesting a possible shift in the US position on the issue.
The envoy reiterated that the naval blockade constitutes a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international law, maintaining that meaningful dialogue can only proceed in an environment free from pressure and coercive measures.
Reports indicate that if the blockade is lifted, the next round of negotiations could take place in Islamabad as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions and continued international efforts to revive dialogue between Tehran and Washington.
