Pakistan, Qatar explore mountaineering partnership to promote youth empowerment, adventure tourism

DOHA, Thursday, June 18, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Muhammad Aamer, received renowned Qatari mountaineer and Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism, Her Excellency Sheikha Asma Al Thani, at the Embassy of Pakistan in Doha ahead of her planned return to Pakistan next month to attempt additional 8,000-metre peaks.

The Embassy of Pakistan described the visit as an honour, noting that Sheikha Asma was warmly welcomed by Ambassador Muhammad Aamer in recognition of her remarkable contributions to promoting Pakistan’s mountain tourism internationally.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had appointed Sheikha Asma as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism following her historic achievements as the first Qatari woman to successfully summit K2 and Nanga Parbat, two of the world’s most challenging mountains.

During the meeting, both sides discussed preparations for her upcoming expedition to Pakistan and explored avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation in mountaineering, adventure tourism and outdoor sports.

Particular emphasis was placed on launching joint mountaineering initiatives aimed at empowering young people and creating greater opportunities for young Pakistani women to participate in adventure sports and high-altitude climbing.

Ambassador Muhammad Aamer expressed profound admiration for Sheikha Asma’s historic accomplishments and unwavering dedication to mountaineering, describing her achievements as an inspiration for aspiring climbers across the region.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting sustainable mountain tourism and strengthening people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Qatar through adventure sports, tourism and cultural exchanges.

Sheikha Asma praised Pakistan’s breathtaking mountain landscapes, unparalleled natural beauty and the warm hospitality extended to her during her previous expeditions, describing the country as one of the world’s finest destinations for mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Doha extended its prayers and best wishes for Sheikha Asma’s safe, successful and memorable expedition next month, expressing confidence that her continued association with Pakistan would further enhance the country’s global profile as a premier destination for mountain tourism and adventure travel.
