DHAKA, Tuesday, February 17, 2026 (WNP): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal witnessed an “inspiring and heartening” display of democratic optimism during his visit to Dhaka, as young Bangladeshis took to the streets to celebrate their country’s democratic transition.

According to officials accompanying the minister, the streets of the capital were marked by scenes of jubilation, with young people expressing enthusiasm and hope for a new chapter in their nation’s political journey. They noted that the visible energy among the youth reflected broader public expectations of stability, progress and inclusive governance.

Minister Ahsan Iqbal was particularly moved, aides said, when a group of young people noticed a vehicle in his convoy bearing the Pakistani flag and spontaneously expressed warmth and goodwill.

Officials described the gesture as a symbolic moment underscoring the potential for improved people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, despite the complex historical backdrop of bilateral ties.

Speaking informally during the visit, the minister emphasized that the future of Pakistan–Bangladesh relations lies with the younger generation. “The hopes, dreams and aspirations of our youth can shape a relationship based on mutual respect, cooperation and shared progress,” he said.

Diplomatic observers are of the opinion that such grassroots expressions of goodwill could help pave the way for enhanced cultural, educational and economic engagement between the two South Asian nations. Recent efforts by both governments to improve communication channels and explore areas of cooperation have been viewed as cautious but constructive steps toward rebuilding trust.

They note that youth engagement, academic exchanges and trade cooperation may serve as practical avenues for strengthening bilateral ties in the years ahead.

Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s visit comes amid renewed regional conversations on connectivity, economic integration and democratic governance, themes that continue to resonate strongly among younger populations across South Asia.
