RAWALPINDI, Wednesday, March 4, 2026 (WNP): Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir visited Wana in South Waziristan on Wednesday to review the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness along Pakistan’s western border, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

During the visit, the army chief laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument and offered Fateha to honour soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the defence of the country. He reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the martyrs remain the cornerstone of Pakistan’s security and national resilience.

Senior military officials briefed the army chief on the overall security environment, ongoing intelligence-based operations, and measures in place for effective border management. The briefing also included updates on Operation Ghazab lil Haq and the evolving situation along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.

The army chief later interacted with officers and troops deployed in forward areas, commending their professionalism, operational vigilance, and high morale amid ongoing skirmishes. He praised their commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Addressing the troops, Munir stressed that the use of Afghan soil by militant groups such as Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan for terrorist activities against Pakistan was unacceptable.

He said all necessary measures would be taken to neutralise threats emanating from across the border.

He further stated that lasting peace could prevail only if the Afghan Taliban renounced support for terrorism and militant organisations operating against Pakistan.

Expressing confidence in the operational preparedness of the Pakistan Army, the army chief said formations deployed along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border remained fully prepared to counter emerging challenges.

Upon arrival in Wana, the army chief was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar, the statement added.
