Pakistan, UAE reaffirm strategic partnership as army chief meets Sheikh Tahnoon in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, Monday, February 16, 2026 (WNP): Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDF) of Pakistan, on Monday met with Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Advisor of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

The meeting, held in Abu Dhabi, focused on enhancing collaboration in economic development, investment and security, while also addressing evolving regional dynamics. Both sides underscored the importance of sustained coordination to promote peace and stability in the wider region.

According to Pakistan’s military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions reflected the deep-rooted strategic ties between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi, which have expanded over decades of close political, economic and defence engagement.

Field Marshal Asim Munir conveyed appreciation for the UAE’s longstanding investments and consistent support for Pakistan’s economy and security. He described the relationship as grounded in shared history, mutual trust and strong people-to-people connections.

He also acknowledged the UAE leadership’s role in supporting economic and social development initiatives in Pakistan, noting that Emirati investments have contributed to infrastructure development, financial stability and broader economic cooperation.

Emphasizing the depth of the strategic partnership, Field Marshal Munir stated that the security and stability of the United Arab Emirates are closely linked to Pakistan’s own security interests. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation in defence, economic and regional security domains.

Observers note that the meeting comes at a time of shifting geopolitical alignments in the Middle East and South Asia, with both countries seeking to consolidate partnerships that advance shared economic growth and regional stability.

Pakistan and the UAE maintain robust cooperation in defence, trade and investment, with the Gulf state remaining one of Pakistan’s key economic partners and home to a large Pakistani expatriate community.
