LONDON, Tuesday, December 23, 2025 (WNP): Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was released on bail Tuesday after being arrested at a pro-Palestinian protest in London, UK authorities confirmed.

The 22-year-old activist was detained under the UK Terrorism Act for holding a placard that read: “I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide.” The City of London Police said Thunberg has been bailed until March 2026.

Thunberg’s arrest came after two other individuals were taken into custody for throwing red paint at a building targeted by the protest. According to campaign group Prisoners for Palestine, the building houses an insurance firm that provides services to the British arm of Israeli defence contractor Elbit Systems. The company has not responded to requests for comment.

Prisoners for Palestine, which advocates for detained activists, highlighted that the protest aimed to support members of Palestine Action, some of whom have undertaken hunger strikes while imprisoned. The UK government has officially designated Palestine Action as a terrorist organization.

Thunberg first rose to international prominence in 2018, when she staged weekly climate strikes outside the Swedish parliament. She was previously cleared of a public order offence in Britain last year after a judge ruled police lacked authority to arrest her at a 2024 protest in London.

In October, Thunberg was among 478 activists detained and expelled by Israel while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla.

This latest arrest adds to Thunberg’s growing record of high-profile activism on climate and humanitarian issues, drawing global attention to her advocacy and civil disobedience efforts.
