CAIRO, Thursday, October 23, 2025 (WNP): Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, is on an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt to bolster defence cooperation and deepen strategic collaboration between the two brotherly nations.

During the visit, the Field Marshal held important meetings with Egypt’s Minister of Defence and Defence Production, General Abdul Maged Saqar, and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi. Discussions focused on bilateral military cooperation, the regional security environment, and avenues for enhanced defence collaboration.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring fraternal bond with Egypt, noting that the partnership between the two nations would not only strengthen mutual defence capabilities but also contribute to broader peace and stability in the Middle East and South Asia.

At the Ministry of Defence, the COAS was accorded a warm ceremonial welcome and presented with a Guard of Honour. He also laid floral wreaths at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier and at the grave of late Egyptian President Mohamed Anwar Al Sadat, paying tribute to Egypt’s national heroes.

As part of his engagements, Field Marshal Asim Munir also met His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed El Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in Cairo. The Grand Imam shared his perspectives on the contemporary challenges confronting the Muslim world, while the Pakistani Army Chief underscored the importance of promoting unity, countering extremism, and dispelling distorted interpretations of Islam through dialogue, education, and shared understanding.

The visit reflects Pakistan’s continued commitment to strengthening defence diplomacy and fostering close cooperation with Egypt — a key partner in the Islamic world — through mutual respect, strategic coordination, and shared vision for regional peace and stability.
