WASHINGTON, Friday, October 10, 2025 (WNP): U.S. First Lady Melania Trump has disclosed that she has been in direct communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the past several months to facilitate the reunification of Ukrainian children displaced by the war.

In a statement released Friday, Mrs. Trump said her humanitarian initiative began last August when she wrote a personal letter to President Putin concerning the plight of Ukrainian children residing in Russia.

“A child’s soul knows no border, no flags,” she said. “Much has unfolded since President Putin received my letter last August. He responded in writing, signalling a willingness to engage with me directly and outlining details regarding the Ukrainian children residing in Russia.”

The First Lady revealed that since then, both sides have maintained an open line of communication, holding several back-channel meetings and calls focused on the safe reunification of children with their families.

“For the past three months, both sides have participated in several back-channel meetings and calls, all in good faith. We have agreed to cooperate with each other for the benefit of all people involved in this war,” Mrs. Trump said.

According to her, eight Ukrainian children have already been reunited with their families in the past 24 hours as part of this collaborative effort.

Mrs. Trump emphasized that her initiative is purely humanitarian, adding that her representative has been working closely with President Putin’s team “to ensure the safe reunification of children with their families between Russia and Ukraine.”

The development marks a rare instance of direct, cooperative dialogue between U.S. and Russian representatives amid the ongoing conflict, potentially signaling a new humanitarian channel aimed at addressing one of the most painful consequences of the war.

International observers have cautiously welcomed the news, viewing it as a potential breakthrough in humanitarian diplomacy, driven by the First Lady’s appeal to shared compassion beyond politics.
