Turkish defence minister concludes Pakistan visit, both sides reaffirm strategic partnership

ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, September 10, 2025 (WNP): Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence Yasar Güler on Wednesday concluded a three-day official visit to Pakistan for deepening bilateral cooperation and further strengthening strategic and defence ties between the two countries.

Minister Güler led the Turkish delegation to the 16th session of the Pakistan–Türkiye Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), which he co-chaired with Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan. The forum reviewed the progress of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) agenda and set out new areas of collaboration.

The JMC focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, information technology, e-commerce, energy, mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, education, media, tourism, and connectivity. Both sides agreed to translate their fraternal ties into a comprehensive and multifaceted partnership.

During his stay, Minister Güler also called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and held meetings with Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

In his meeting with the prime minister, the two sides reiterated their resolve to strengthen collaboration across multiple sectors, including trade and investment, research and development, IT, energy, agriculture, education, and cultural exchanges. Discussions with the defence minister and the army chief reaffirmed mutual commitment to enhancing strategic and defence cooperation.

The Foreign Office described the visit as an important opportunity to review the wide spectrum of Pakistan–Türkiye relations and reaffirm the two countries’ determination to elevate their partnership in line with shared strategic and economic interests.
