RIYADH, Tuesday, August 26, 2025 (WNP): The Riyadh Metro marked a major milestone on Tuesday as it welcomed its 100 millionth passenger, less than nine months after launching operations in December 2024, according to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC).

The six-line network, designed to transform mobility in the Saudi capital, has quickly become a cornerstone of urban transport. The Blue Line, running along the Olaya-Batha axis, has emerged as the busiest corridor with 46.5 million riders so far. It is followed by the Red Line on King Abdullah Road with 17 million passengers, and the Orange Line on Al Madinah Al Munawwarah Road with 12 million. The remaining three lines together served 24.5 million commuters.

Officials reported that the metro has maintained a 99.78 percent on-time performance rate since launch. Key stations, including Qasr Al Hokm, King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), stc, and the National Museum interchange, accounted for nearly a third of all trips, highlighting their role as major mobility hubs.

Seamlessly linked with an extensive bus network, on-demand services, and park-and-ride facilities, the Riyadh Metro is designed to provide residents and visitors with smooth, accessible, and sustainable travel across the city.

The rapid growth in ridership underscores Riyadh’s transformation into a modern metropolis with efficient public transport at its core, officials said, adding that the system not only eases congestion but also advances Saudi Arabia’s broader goals of urban sustainability and improved quality of life.
