ISLAMABAD, Sunday, August 17, 2025 (WNP): The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Islamabad on Sunday commemorated the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence with a vibrant ceremony showcasing culture, unity, and friendship with Pakistan.

The event was led by Ambassador-designate of Indonesia to Pakistan, Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo, and attended by distinguished guests, including Major General (R) Asrobudi, Advisor of the Indonesia Big Wall Expedition (IBEX), and six mountaineers who recently scaled the iconic Trango Tower in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Indonesian nationals, embassy officials, students, professionals, and community members — many dressed in red and white or traditional attire — joined the celebrations, reflecting the nation’s spirit of “unity in diversity.”

In his remarks, Ambassador Chandra thanked the participants for their presence and reaffirmed the strong friendship between Pakistan and Indonesia. “Your participation reflects the love and commitment you hold for Indonesia. May the bond of friendship between Indonesia and Pakistan continue to grow stronger. Pakistan-Indonesia Dosti Zindabad!” he said.

The ceremony featured a colorful cultural showcase, including traditional dances, multilingual singing, angklung performances, and martial arts demonstrations. Both Indonesian nationals and Pakistani partners took part, highlighting the close cultural ties between the two nations.

In line with a special initiative by the Indonesian President, the Ambassador presented Certificates of Appreciation to female coordinators of Indonesian communities across Pakistan for their dedicated service. In collaboration with GAK Healthcare International, complimentary medical check-ups were also arranged for community members.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of the IBEX team, who recently achieved the remarkable feat of scaling Trango Tower, the world’s tallest vertical rock face at 6,251 meters. “At the summit, we proudly raised the Indonesian Red and White flag alongside banners celebrating the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Pakistan,” said expedition leader Freden Sembiring.

Guests were treated to a rich spread of authentic Indonesian cuisine, offering traditional dishes and refreshing archipelagic drinks, which left a lasting impression on attendees.

Concluding the ceremony, Ambassador Chandra expressed heartfelt gratitude to embassy staff, partners, and the Indonesian community for making the 80th Independence Day celebration “memorable, colorful, and a true reflection of Indonesia’s heritage and friendship with Pakistan.”
