ISLAMABAD, Monday, July 7, 2025 (WNP): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has launched a two-week “Turkish Summer Camp” for promoting education, creativity, and physical development among children in a culturally immersive environment.

The camp was formally inaugurated during a vibrant ceremony attended by children, parents, and distinguished guests, including Dr. Zahid Majeed, Director of AIOU’s International Office; Prof. Dr. Khalil Tokar, Director of the Yunus Emre Institute; Dr. Mehmet Toyran, Education Attaché at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad; and Turkish language expert Prof. Dr. Samina Tokar.

Speakers hailed the initiative as a unique blend of education and cultural diplomacy, describing it as a meaningful expression of the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye.

Running until July 18, the camp features three interactive sessions each day. The first session focuses on Turkish language instruction, teaching children basic vocabulary, conversational phrases, and everyday expressions. The second session offers training in calligraphy inspired by Islamic and Turkish art, designed to enhance children’s creativity and aesthetic sense. The third session introduces traditional Turkish games—including archery and Mangala—promoting physical activity while deepening cultural appreciation.

Dr. Zahid Majeed noted that this marks AIOU’s third Turkish Summer Camp, highlighting its success in nurturing young learners’ talents and exposing them to global cultures. He announced that the closing ceremony will feature AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood and the Ambassador of Türkiye to Pakistan as chief guests.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Khalil Tokar expressed hope that the camp would further cement the cultural and emotional bonds between Pakistan and Türkiye. Education Attaché Mehmet Tugrul Türker added that the camp offers more than language learning—it provides children with a holistic understanding of Türkiye’s rich heritage, values, and modern progress.

The initiative reflects AIOU’s commitment to promoting international collaboration and fostering intercultural exchange, especially among younger generations.
