Field Marshal Asim Munir honoured at Yadgar-e-Shuhada ceremony

RAWALPINDI, Wednesday, May 21, 2025 (WNP): A solemn Guard of Honour ceremony was held on Wednesday at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, to honour Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), following his elevation to the prestigious rank.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath at the monument and offered Fateha in tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs. The ceremony paid homage to the sacrifices made by the valiant men and women of the Armed Forces, as well as civil and law enforcement personnel who laid down their lives in the defence of the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) dedicated the honour to the people of Pakistan, the Armed Forces, and especially to the martyrs and veterans. “This honour is a tribute to the entire Pakistani nation and the valiant men and women of the Armed Forces of Pakistan—particularly the martyrs who stood like a ‘Wall of Steel’ against Indian unprovoked, cowardly and unlawful aggression,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI (M), extended heartfelt congratulations to Field Marshal Asim Munir on his promotion. In his message, the CJCSC praised the COAS for his exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment, and distinguished service to the nation—especially during the recent successful military operations Marka-e-Haq and Bunyanum Marsoos.

The elevation of General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal marks a historic moment, reflecting the military’s recognition of his strategic acumen and his pivotal role in strengthening Pakistan’s defence.
