ISLAMABAD, Thursday, May 15, 2025 (WNP): Pakistan has reiterated its unwavering support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as Federal Climate Change Minister Dr. Musadik Malik met with Syrian Ambassador Dr. Ramez Alraee in Islamabad on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two sides strongly condemned Israel’s continued aggression and occupation of Syrian territories, while emphasizing the importance of regional stability and addressing humanitarian challenges facing the Syrian people.

Dr. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled position, stating, “Pakistan has always stood by its brotherly nation and will continue to advocate for Syria’s rightful stance at international forums.” He underscored the urgency of resolving Syria’s crisis not only for regional peace but for broader global stability.

The minister pointed to three critical priorities: ensuring access to essential resources, making them affordable, and bridging the perceptual divide between developed and developing countries regarding access to such services.

Ambassador Alraee highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions in Syria, exacerbated by years of conflict and ongoing Israeli military actions. He said many parts of Syria receive less than two hours of electricity a day, deepening the plight of the population.

The ambassador also lauded the professionalism of the Pakistan Air Force and expressed gratitude for Islamabad’s role in helping mediate a recent ceasefire agreement with India.

Drawing parallels between Israeli and Indian actions, Dr. Malik said both nations appear to follow a hegemonic doctrine that threatens regional peace and undermines international norms. “Their aggressive posturing reflects an approach rooted in enforcing dominance rather than pursuing coexistence,” he noted.

The meeting concluded with both countries pledging to work together to safeguard sovereign rights and promote peace and stability in the region.

Separately, Pakistan welcomed the United States’ decision to lift sanctions on Syria, calling it a vital step toward economic recovery and sustainable peace in the region.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said the easing of sanctions is expected to enhance access to essential services, stimulate economic activity, and support Syria’s reconstruction efforts.

“We commend the constructive roles played by the U.S., Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar in facilitating a peaceful path forward for Syria,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said.

Reaffirming its long-standing position, Pakistan emphasized that any resolution to the Syrian conflict must be Syrian-led and Syrian-owned. “Pakistan remains committed to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Syria,” the spokesperson concluded.
