KARACHI, Wednesday, May 07, 2025 (WNP): Turkish Consul General Cemal Sangu on Wednesday announced the goodwill port call of the Turkish naval ship TCG Buyukada (F-512) to Karachi, highlighting the growing strategic and cultural partnership between Turkiye and Pakistan.

Speaking at a reception aboard the warship, hosted by Turkish Ambassador Dr. Irfan Meziroglu and Commanding Officer Lt. Commander Anil Bilgin, Sangu emphasized that the visit reflects the enduring and brotherly relationship between the two nations — a bond rooted in shared values, deep historical ties, and mutual strategic interests.

“This port visit of TCG Buyukada is a strong symbol of the close naval cooperation between our two countries and our shared commitment to maritime security, regional stability, and global peace,” Sangu said.

The reception was attended by a high-level delegation including former Senator Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Senator Nasrin Jalil, Minister of State Fahad Haroon, Sindh Ministers Dr. Azra Pechohu, Makhdoom Mehboob uz Zaman, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, and senior officials such as Zubair Motiwala, DIG Maqsood Memon, and representatives from the Pakistan Navy and government. Also present were diplomats, businessmen, and civil society leaders including Kalim Farooqui, Majyd Aziz, and Mirza Ishtiaq Baig.

In his remarks, the Turkish Consul General lauded the historic solidarity between the peoples of Turkiye and Pakistan. “Our brotherhood is deeper than the ocean and higher than K2,” he remarked. “It’s a bond that words cannot fully describe — a connection from heart to heart, and from soul to soul.”

He noted that the two nations have always stood by each other in times of both triumph and tragedy. “Whether it’s an earthquake in Turkiye or floods in Pakistan, the outpouring of empathy and support is unmatched,” Sangu added. “This love and affection are mutual, sincere, and enduring — it is not one-sided, but deeply shared.”

Sangu extended heartfelt gratitude to the Pakistan Navy and the government of Pakistan, especially the Sindh administration, for the warm hospitality shown to the ship and its crew. “This gesture reflects the spirit of brotherhood that defines our exceptional relationship.”

He expressed hope that the goodwill visit of TCG Buyukada would further deepen military-to-military cooperation and promote greater understanding between the armed forces and peoples of the two countries.

“From land to air to sea, I am proud of the bonds we continue to build together,” he said, also extending congratulations on behalf of the Turkish ambassador in Islamabad.

The TCG Buyukada is part of Turkiye’s MILGEM project — a class of state-of-the-art, multi-purpose corvettes — and its visit is viewed as a key milestone in strengthening defence diplomacy between Islamabad and Ankara.
