PM Shehbaz Sharif assures newly arrived Italian Ambassador Ugo Ciarlatani of full cooperation to expand partnership in agriculture, IT, AI, industry and textiles
ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, September 8, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday received Ambassador-designate of the Italian Republic to Pakistan, Ugo Ciarlatani, at the Prime Minister House, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Italy.
The courtesy call was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch.
Welcoming Ambassador Ciarlatani to Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and Italy enjoyed excellent bilateral relations and expressed his desire to further expand cooperation between the two countries.
The Prime Minister conveyed his warm greetings to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and fondly recalled his interactions with her. He also expressed his pleasure over Prime Minister Meloni’s completion of four uninterrupted years in office, noting that she had become Italy’s longest-serving leader.
Ambassador Ciarlatani thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for receiving him and expressed his determination to further promote and strengthen Pakistan-Italy relations during his diplomatic tenure.
The Ambassador said he looked forward to working closely with the Government of Pakistan to advance cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister assured the Italian envoy of Pakistan’s full cooperation in efforts to build stronger and more productive ties between the two countries.
He particularly highlighted the potential for enhanced collaboration in agriculture, information technology and artificial intelligence, industry, textiles and people-to-people contacts.
The meeting underscored the two countries’ shared interest in broadening bilateral engagement and translating their longstanding relations into greater economic, technological and people-to-people cooperation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that Ambassador Ciarlatani’s tenure would contribute to further deepening the friendly relations between Pakistan and Italy.
