Russia reaffirms support for Pakistan’s upcoming SCO chairmanship

Ambassador Albert P. Khorev highlights finance, investment, technology, transport and energy cooperation at meeting of SCO ambassadors

ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, August 19, 2026 (WNP): Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev participated in a meeting of Ambassadors of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states, hosted by Pakistan’s National Coordinator for the SCO, Dr Muhammad Faisal, as Islamabad prepares to assume the organisation’s chairmanship.

The meeting focused on organisational matters related to Pakistan’s upcoming SCO Chairmanship, providing an opportunity for representatives of member states to discuss priorities and preparations for the forthcoming term.

Addressing the meeting, Ambassador Khorev emphasised that the SCO remains among the key priorities of Russia’s foreign policy, underscoring Moscow’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation within the organisation.

He highlighted the importance of advancing practical and results-oriented initiatives in a number of strategic areas, including finance, investment, technology, industrial cooperation, the digital economy, transportation and energy.

Khorev stressed that greater cooperation across these sectors could contribute to stronger economic connectivity and sustainable development among SCO member states.

The Russian Ambassador also expressed support for Pakistan as it prepares to take on the SCO Chairmanship, wishing his Pakistani counterparts every success in carrying out their responsibilities.

He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to constructive cooperation with Pakistan and to working with all SCO member states to advance shared priorities within the organisation.

The meeting reflects the continued diplomatic engagement among SCO member states ahead of Pakistan’s forthcoming chairmanship and highlights the importance attached by Russia to strengthening practical cooperation within the Eurasian grouping.
