ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, July 21, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace, stability and constructive diplomacy during a meeting with Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is on an official visit to Pakistan.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s House, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and other senior government officials.

Welcoming the Iranian Interior Minister and his delegation, the Prime Minister recalled his recent visit to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. He conveyed his respectful regards and best wishes to the Supreme Leader, His Eminence Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, and President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

During the discussions, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region and underscored the importance of restraint and dialogue to prevent further instability.

He urged all parties to avoid actions that could heighten tensions and reiterated that Pakistan would continue to play the role of an honest, sincere and responsible mediator in support of regional peace and stability.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding policy of promoting dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of disputes, emphasizing that lasting peace and prosperity in the region could only be achieved through cooperation and mutual understanding.

Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation and conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Iranian leadership. He said his visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior government officials, reflected Iran’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

The Iranian Interior Minister expressed profound appreciation for the mediation efforts undertaken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, which culminated in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting regional stability and dialogue.

He also thanked the Prime Minister for travelling to Tehran earlier this month to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, describing the visit as a reflection of the close and enduring ties between Pakistan and Iran.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and enhancing cooperation in the areas of regional security, diplomacy, border management and mutual prosperity through sustained engagement and close coordination.
