ISLAMABAD, Sunday, June 28, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan Armed Forces on Sunday carried out intelligence-based airstrikes against militant hideouts in Afghanistan’s Paktia, Paktika and Kunar provinces, saying the operation killed at least 29 militants linked to the recent suicide attack on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi.
According to official sources, the strikes targeted camps used by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and other factions of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating across the border. The operation was launched following Saturday’s assault on the Rangers headquarters in Karachi, in which three Rangers personnel were killed and four others injured. Security forces killed three attackers during the assault and captured a fourth militant alive.
The cross-border operation targeted three locations in Paktia, Paktika and Kunar, destroying militant camps and eliminating at least 29 militants. Among those reported killed was Khan Farosh, whom Pakistani authorities identified as a senior militant commander and the alleged mastermind behind the Karachi suicide attack.
Those killed included militants affiliated with the TTP who were supported by India. The latest operation marks Pakistan’s retaliatory response to the Karachi attack and comes amid heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban administration of allowing anti-Pakistan militant groups to operate from Afghan territory.
