TEHRAN, Monday, June 15, 2026 (WNP): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday held a series of telephone conversations with his counterparts from Türkiye, Iraq, Egypt, Japan and Saudi Arabia to discuss progress on the Islamabad Accord and the next steps toward its implementation.
According to statements released by the Iranian government, Araghchi discussed the accord and its key provisions with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
During the discussions, Araghchi emphasized the United States’ responsibility for implementing the agreement and ensuring compliance with its provisions.
He also highlighted the need for a complete cessation of Israeli military actions against Lebanon, saying such measures were essential for sustaining regional stability and preventing renewed tensions.
The Iranian foreign minister expressed appreciation for the constructive role played by Türkiye, Iraq and Egypt in supporting ceasefire efforts and promoting peace in the region.
In a separate conversation, Araghchi and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi reviewed recent developments related to the Islamabad Accord.
Araghchi outlined the principal clauses of the agreement and expressed hope that its successful implementation would pave the way for expanded economic and investment cooperation between Iran and Japan.
The Japanese foreign minister welcomed the accord as an important step toward resolving regional crises and stressed the importance of its careful and effective implementation. Both sides also agreed to maintain close consultations regarding future cooperation and developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Araghchi held talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, focusing on the implementation of the Islamabad Accord and broader regional security issues.
During the call, Araghchi reiterated the importance of full implementation of the agreement and emphasized the need to prevent further escalation in Lebanon.
He also thanked Saudi Arabia for its constructive role in diplomatic efforts for ending the conflict and advancing regional peace initiatives.
The two foreign ministers underscored the importance of continued consultations between Tehran and Riyadh and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in support of regional peace, stability and dialogue.
The latest diplomatic contacts come as regional and international stakeholders intensify efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the Islamabad Accord ahead of its formal signing ceremony scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland.
