RIYADH, Wednesday, May 20, 2026 (WNP): Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has said that Saudi Arabia highly appreciates the decision of Donald Trump to give diplomacy an opportunity to reach an acceptable agreement  for ending the ongoing conflict and restoring regional stability, particularly with regard to maritime security in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

In an important diplomatic statement, the Saudi foreign minister said the Kingdom welcomed efforts focused on restoring the security and freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to the situation that existed prior to February 28, 2026, while addressing all contentious issues in a manner that contributes to regional peace, stability, and international security.

He also expressed Saudi Arabia’s strong appreciation for the mediation efforts being undertaken by Pakistan, acknowledging Islamabad’s constructive diplomatic engagement and its continued role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and peaceful conflict resolution in the region.

The statement reflects Saudi Arabia’s consistent policy of supporting diplomatic solutions and encouraging negotiations to prevent further escalation in an already sensitive regional environment.

Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan emphasized that the Kingdom hopes Iran will seize the opportunity to avoid the dangerous consequences of further escalation and respond urgently and positively to ongoing diplomatic efforts for advancing negotiations toward a comprehensive agreement capable of ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The Saudi position comes at a critical time amid heightened international concern over tensions affecting maritime routes in the Gulf region, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which remains one of the world’s most vital energy and commercial shipping corridors.

Global powers and regional states have repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining uninterrupted maritime navigation through the Strait, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies passes daily. Any instability in the area is widely viewed as having serious implications for international trade, energy markets, and regional security.

Saudi Arabia has consistently advocated dialogue, diplomacy, and collective regional cooperation to address disputes and reduce tensions. The Kingdom has also played an active role in supporting political settlements and encouraging peaceful engagement among regional actors.

Pakistan’s mediation efforts have drawn growing international attention in recent months due to Islamabad’s balanced diplomatic outreach and its longstanding relations with countries across the Middle East. Analysts say Pakistan’s involvement reflects its commitment to regional peace, stability, and constructive international diplomacy.

They believe the renewed diplomatic momentum supported by Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Pakistan could open new avenues for dialogue and reduce the risks of wider confrontation in the region.

The Kingdom reiterated its support for all international and regional efforts for achieving comprehensive peace, safeguarding maritime security, protecting global economic stability, and strengthening cooperation among nations through diplomacy and mutual understanding.
