TEHRAN, Tuesday, April 21, 2026 (WNP): Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has accused US President Donald Trump of attempting to turn ongoing negotiations into a “platform for surrender” by imposing pressure tactics, including a siege and violations of a fragile ceasefire.

In a strongly worded statement, Qalibaf said Iran would not engage in talks conducted “under the shadow of threats,” warning that coercive measures would not yield results at the negotiating table.

He alleged that Washington, through continued military pressure and actions at sea, was seeking to transform diplomacy into a means of capitulation or justify renewed confrontation.

Terming such an approach unacceptable, Qalibaf reiterated Tehran’s firm stance that meaningful dialogue must be based on mutual respect rather than intimidation. He further cautioned that Iran had, over recent weeks, prepared additional strategic options, signaling readiness to respond if tensions escalate.

The remarks come amid heightened uncertainty surrounding the next round of US-Iran talks, with a tenuous ceasefire under strain due to mutual accusations of violations and ongoing military posturing in the region.

Iranian officials have consistently maintained that negotiations cannot proceed in an atmosphere of pressure, emphasizing that any diplomatic breakthrough would require the cessation of hostile actions and adherence to agreed commitments.
