Ukraine, Qatar agree on long-term defense partnership following Doha talks

DOHA, Saturday, March 28, 2026 (WNP): President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with the Amir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha, where both sides agreed to establish a long-term partnership in the defense sector.

The meeting, also attended by Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing measures aimed at protecting lives amid ongoing regional and international security challenges.

According to President Zelenskyy, the two sides agreed on a mutually beneficial defense partnership spanning at least 10 years. Following the talks, the Chiefs of the General Staff of both countries signed an agreement covering joint defense industry projects, co-production facilities and technological collaboration between companies.

Zelenskyy briefed the Qatari leadership on the evolving security situation in Ukraine, including continued attacks by Russia, and highlighted concerns over Moscow’s growing cooperation with Iran.

He emphasized that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities remains a top priority and expressed hope for continued support from international partners.

The Ukrainian president thanked the Qatari leadership for their warm reception and willingness to deepen cooperation, describing the agreements reached as a significant step toward enhancing bilateral ties.

The development underscores Qatar’s expanding role in international diplomacy and defense cooperation, as well as Ukraine’s efforts to broaden its strategic partnerships amid ongoing conflict.
