Unverified claims circulate that Iran used decoy military equipment to mislead U.S., Israeli Air Forces

TEHRAN / WASHINGTON, March 8, 2026 (WNP): Unverified reports circulating on social media and some online platforms claim that Iran deployed large numbers of fake or decoy military assets—including mock fighter jets, tanks, and air-defense systems—allegedly sourced from China in an attempt to mislead U.S. and Israeli forces during the ongoing regional conflict.

According to these claims, the decoys were intended to confuse aerial surveillance and draw missile strikes toward non-operational targets, potentially forcing attacking aircraft to expend expensive precision weapons on dummy equipment.

However, no credible evidence or confirmation from major international news agencies or defense officials has verified these reports.

Defense analysts note that the use of decoys and inflatable or mock military equipment is a well-known tactic in modern warfare, designed to protect real assets by misleading enemy reconnaissance systems. Similar tactics have historically been used by several militaries worldwide to complicate targeting by drones, satellites, and strike aircraft.

At the same time, the broader conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel continues to intensify, with multiple strikes reported across Iranian territory and retaliatory drone and missile attacks launched by Tehran against regional targets.

Recent reports indicate that Iranian forces have relied heavily on missile and drone capabilities while U.S. and Israeli forces maintain air superiority using advanced aircraft such as the F-15, F-16, and F-35 fighter jets.

Experts caution that information warfare and misinformation have become widespread during the current conflict, with numerous false or misleading claims circulating online about military losses, weapons systems, and battlefield developments.

Military observers say that until confirmed by credible intelligence or official sources, claims about Iran purchasing “fake” Chinese military equipment should be treated cautiously.

The evolving conflict in the Middle East continues to generate competing narratives from different sides, making independent verification of battlefield information increasingly difficult.
