ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, October 6, 2026 (WNP): United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday to undertake an official visit to Pakistan from October 6 to 8, 2026, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

Upon arrival, the UN Secretary-General was received by Acting Foreign Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir.

During his three-day visit, Secretary-General Guterres is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s senior leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), where he will receive a briefing on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and resilience efforts.

The visit provides an opportunity for Pakistan and the United Nations to exchange views on regional and international developments, international peace and security, multilateralism, disaster preparedness and early-warning systems.

The Foreign Office said the visit would also highlight Pakistan’s longstanding cooperation with the United Nations and its commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

Secretary-General Guterres last visited Pakistan in 2022, when he toured areas affected by the devastating floods. During the current visit, his engagement with the NDMA will also focus on the progress made by Pakistan in strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience since those floods.
