UNITED NATIONS, Friday, October 10, 2025 (WNP): United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday urged all parties to fully uphold the terms of the newly reached agreement aimed at securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza, calling it a critical opportunity to end the suffering of civilians.

“I urge all to fully abide by the terms of the agreement to secure a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza,” Guterres said in a statement. “All hostages must be released in a dignified manner. A permanent ceasefire must be secured.”

The UN chief also emphasized the urgent need for “full, safe and sustained access” for humanitarian workers to deliver life-saving assistance to those in desperate need across the war-torn enclave.

“We have all waited far too long for this moment,” he said. “Now we must make it truly count.”

Guterres’ appeal comes as hopes rise for a lasting halt to hostilities following months of devastating conflict, displacement, and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
