ISLAMABAD, Monday, October 13, 2025 (WNP): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday hosted high-level parliamentary delegations from Türkiye and Azerbaijan at its National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC), marking a significant step toward enhanced regional cooperation in disaster preparedness and climate resilience.

The Turkish delegation was led by Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmus, while the Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq accompanied both delegations during their visit to the NEOC.

Welcoming the distinguished guests, NDMA Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik briefed them on Pakistan’s proactive and technology-driven disaster management framework. He highlighted NDMA’s central coordination role and its integration of cutting-edge tools for early warning, preparedness, and emergency response.

The NDMA team presented key innovations, including the National Common Operating Picture (NCOP) and Global Common Operating Picture (GCOP) — digital platforms that leverage satellite data and international hazard models to support real-time risk assessment and informed decision-making.

Delegates were also briefed on NDMA’s initiatives to promote regional collaboration through knowledge exchange, capacity-building programs, workshops, and Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises (CISE) aimed at strengthening collective disaster response mechanisms.

The guests were apprised of NDMA’s successful Monsoon 2025 operations, which included the deployment of the Disaster Early Warning (DEW) system, large-scale public awareness campaigns, timely evacuation of over three million at-risk individuals, and coordinated relief and recovery efforts.

The visiting dignitaries praised NDMA’s strategic use of technology and its commitment to building resilience and enhancing preparedness. They reaffirmed their intent to strengthen trilateral cooperation in disaster risk reduction, capacity development, and mutual assistance during emergencies.

The visit underscored the growing partnership among Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan in addressing shared challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters, reflecting a spirit of solidarity, friendship, and collective responsibility toward building a safer and more resilient future for their peoples.
