Sweden marks National Day, 75 years of diplomatic ties with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Thursday, May 29, 2025 (WNP): The Embassy of Sweden in Pakistan celebrated Sweden’s National Day and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Pakistan with a reception at the Swedish Residence in Islamabad on Thursday.

The event was attended by senior government officials, business leaders, civil society representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps, highlighting the depth and diversity of the bilateral relationship.

To mark the occasion, the Embassy launched a commemorative book titled “75 Years of Partnership – Sweden and Pakistan”, alongside a mini book exhibition. The publication showcases the evolution of bilateral ties, key diplomatic milestones, and the contributions of over 40 Swedish companies currently operating in Pakistan across a range of sectors.

Guests were also treated to live performances of Swedish music by local artists, creating a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere.

Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde, in her remarks, underscored the significance of the longstanding partnership. “Our common journey is a story of many voices,” she said, adding that the relationship between Sweden and Pakistan continues to grow through mutual respect and shared values.

Pakistan’s Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, commended the strong bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of technology, innovation, and sustainability. She expressed optimism about enhancing collaboration in digital transformation and inclusive economic growth.

The Swedish Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to deepening ties with Pakistan in areas such as trade, climate action, education, innovation, and gender equality, aiming to further strengthen a dynamic and forward-looking partnership.
