RIYADH, Saturday, May 31, 2025 (WNP): The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar have announced joint financial assistance to support public sector employees in the Syrian Arab Republic over the next three months in a renewed gesture of solidarity with the Syrian people.

The initiative follows an earlier contribution of approximately $15 million by the two nations to help settle Syria’s outstanding arrears with the World Bank Group, underscoring their ongoing commitment to the country’s economic recovery.

The financial aid will bolster economic and social stability in Syria, alleviate humanitarian suffering, and improve living conditions for the Syrian population. It forms part of broader efforts by both Gulf states to promote peace, development, and resilience in the war-torn nation.

Riyadh and Doha emphasized that the joint initiative reflects the deep historical and cultural ties that bind their nations with Syria, and reaffirmed their dedication to advancing sustainable development across the region.

Both countries also voiced their intention to work closely with the international community, particularly regional and global development partners, to ensure coordinated and impactful assistance. They called for a unified, comprehensive approach to aid delivery that enhances long-term opportunities for the Syrian people.

The announcement marks a significant step in Arab efforts to reintegrate Syria into regional frameworks, with a focus on reconstruction and humanitarian relief amid a fragile recovery from years of conflict.
