BEIJING, Tuesday, April 14, 2026 (WNP): Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday said Russia and China oppose Western attempts to maintain global hegemony, amid evolving geopolitical tensions.
Speaking during his visit, Lavrov said Moscow and Beijing could not agree with efforts by the West, including the United States and Europe, to preserve and expand dominance at the expense of other nations.
“Blatant attempts by the West… to maintain and even upgrade its hegemony… continue living at the expense of others,” he said, adding that such an approach is rejected by both Russia and China, as well as by many countries worldwide.
Lavrov also highlighted the complexities of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, describing the region as a “crisis knot” that would be difficult to resolve.
He warned that attempts to address regional conflicts through forceful or simplistic measures are unlikely to succeed, emphasizing the need for careful and sustained diplomatic efforts.
