Romania backs Pakistan’s mediation efforts, stresses Strait of Hormuz reopening, regional stability: FM Țoiu

BUCHAREST, Tuesday, April 14, 2026 (WNP): Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu on Tuesday said she held a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, focusing on regional developments in the Middle East, including the recently held Islamabad Talks.

In a statement, the Romanian foreign minister expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s sustained mediation efforts, carried out alongside regional partners, which contributed to a ceasefire agreement and helped prevent further military escalation in the region.

Both sides agreed on the need to restore stability and security in the broader Middle East, emphasizing that creating conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for unhindered maritime traffic remains a shared priority.

Oana Țoiu conveyed Romania’s readiness to support ongoing mediation and de-escalation initiatives in coordination with regional and international partners.

The two sides also agreed to continue dialogue aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Romania across multiple areas of mutual interest.
