PM Shehbaz, Turkish defence minister discuss deepening strategic partnership

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, September 9, 2025 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday received Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence Yasar Güler, who is visiting Pakistan as co-chair of the Pakistan-Türkiye Joint Ministerial Commission.

Welcoming the Turkish defence minister and his delegation at the Prime Minister House, the premier highlighted the historic and fraternal ties between the two countries, rooted in shared history, culture, and mutual respect.

He expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further expanding cooperation with Türkiye in trade, investment, technology, and defence.

Recalling his recent meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the importance of regular high-level exchanges to deepen ties.

The prime minister underscored the need for concerted efforts to achieve the mutually agreed target of $5 billion in bilateral trade, and invited Turkish companies to expand their investment in Pakistan, citing the country’s investor-friendly policies.

Both sides reaffirmed strong support for each other’s core national interests and agreed to continue close collaboration to further elevate their strategic partnership.

The meeting concluded with a dinner hosted by the prime minister in honour of the Turkish defence minister and members of the Joint Ministerial Commission.
