ISLAMABAD, Saturday, June 14, 2025 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday evening, reaffirming Pakistan’s strong solidarity with Iran in the wake of Israeli aggression.

During the call, the prime minister condemned in the strongest terms what he described as Israel’s “unprovoked and unjustified attacks” against the Islamic Republic of Iran. He said the strikes were a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and in total defiance of the United Nations Charter and international law.

“Iran has every right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter,” the prime minister said, while extending heartfelt condolences over the loss of lives caused by the attacks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also recalled Pakistan’s support for Iran during the UN Security Council’s emergency meeting on Friday, reiterating the country’s principled stance against aggression.

He described Israel’s provocations as a serious threat to both regional and global peace and stability, and strongly condemned its ongoing “genocidal campaign” against the Palestinian people, carried out with impunity.

Calling for urgent and credible international action, the prime minister urged the United Nations and the broader international community to take concrete steps to halt Israel’s aggression and unlawful actions. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peace and its readiness to play a constructive role in defusing tensions.

President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s firm support, especially at the UN forum, calling it a testament to the deep-rooted, brotherly ties between the two nations. He briefed the prime minister on Iran’s position regarding the crisis and called for greater coordination among Islamic countries to respond to the evolving threats.

Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact amid the unfolding regional developments.
