ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, November 5, 2025 (WNP): A high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), led by Dr. Ahmad Norouzi, on Wednesday visited the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Headquarters in Islamabad to explore avenues of enhanced media cooperation between the two countries.
The delegation was warmly received by Acting Chairman PEMRA, Barrister Sikandar Rashid Chaudhry, who briefed the visiting officials on PEMRA’s regulatory framework, operational structure, and key functions. Members of the Iranian delegation engaged in a detailed discussion on Pakistan’s media regulation system and raised various queries regarding content monitoring and compliance mechanisms.

The delegation was also taken on a tour of PEMRA’s state-of-the-art monitoring setup, where officials were briefed on real-time content supervision and technological tools used to ensure adherence to broadcasting standards. The visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs between the two sides as a gesture of goodwill and continued partnership.
Earlier, on November 3, 2025, PEMRA and Iran’s audiovisual regulatory authority — SATRA — signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation, promoting professional exchange, and developing collaborative mechanisms for media policy, ethics, and regulation.

The MoU seeks to enhance mutual learning between the two regulatory bodies by sharing expertise and best practices in media governance, digital transition, and ethical broadcasting standards. The agreement will also facilitate joint initiatives and capacity-building programs to further strengthen media systems in both countries.
The Iranian delegation included Dr. Abbas Mohammad Nezhad, Director General of IRIB International Affairs; Murtaza Shamsi, Director of Sahar Global Network; Dr. Jabar Ali Mohammadi Naiqi, Director General of IRIB Sistan and Balochistan; Hadi Gorizeh; and Zahra Tabak.
