ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, December 9, 2025 (WNP): Pakistan accorded a ceremonial welcome to President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto as he arrived at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday for high-level talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, marking a significant milestone in the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz received President Subianto at the entrance, where a formal welcome ceremony was held. The national anthems of both countries were played as the leaders stood on the saluting dais, followed by a guard of honour presented by a smartly turned-out contingent from Pakistan’s Army, Navy, and Air Force. President Subianto inspected the guard of honour before the two leaders introduced their respective delegations.

The visit commenced with a one-on-one meeting between the two leaders, which was followed by delegation-level discussions. The talks aimed to review the full spectrum of Pakistan–Indonesia bilateral relations and identify new avenues of cooperation in trade, energy, defence, education, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity.

Both sides are set to sign several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors, reflecting a shared commitment to expanding strategic and economic ties.

As part of the ceremonial activities, President Subianto planted a commemorative sapling in the lawn of the Prime Minister’s House, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two countries.

The federal capital resonated with the spirit of the historic visit, with main avenues and the route of the Indonesian motorcade adorned with the national flags of Pakistan and Indonesia, alongside large portraits of President Subianto.

During his stay, the Indonesian leader will also hold a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari.

This marks President Prabowo Subianto’s first official visit to Pakistan since assuming office. The last Indonesian presidential visit was made by then-President Joko Widodo in 2018. The timing of the visit underscores its importance as both countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic partnership grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and cooperation.
