Pakistan, Russia pledge to boost trade, energy, & defence ties at SCO sidelines meeting

TIANJIN, Tuesday, July 15, 2025 (WNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tianjin, China, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

The two dignitaries expressed satisfaction over the upward trajectory of Pakistan-Russia relations and agreed to expand collaboration in trade, energy, agriculture, and defence, recognizing the growing potential in these strategic areas.

During the meeting, Senator Dar renewed his invitation for Foreign Minister Lavrov to visit Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of continued high-level exchanges to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.

The interaction marked another step forward in Islamabad and Moscow’s evolving partnership, with both sides highlighting the need to maintain momentum in their bilateral engagements within the framework of regional cooperation.
