ISLAMABAD, Monday, January 26, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan and Myanmar on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar held delegation-level talks with Myanmar’s Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Than Swe, in Islamabad.
The Myanmar foreign minister, who called on Senator Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led a high-level delegation for comprehensive discussions covering the full spectrum of bilateral ties. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the existing state of relations and underscored the importance of enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual benefit.
According to officials, the talks focused on broadening cooperation in religious tourism, people-to-people contacts, and cultural exchanges, with the aim of fostering greater mutual understanding and shared prosperity.
The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, particularly issues relating to peace and security, and agreed to remain in close contact on matters of common interest.
As a major outcome of the visit, Senator Ishaq Dar and Foreign Minister Than Swe signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the foreign ministries of Pakistan and Myanmar. The MoU establishes an institutional framework for regular consultations, enabling structured and sustained dialogue on bilateral, regional, and global issues.
Officials said the agreement would help deepen diplomatic engagement, improve coordination at international forums, and provide a consistent mechanism for reviewing progress in bilateral cooperation.

The visit and the signing of the MoU were seen as important steps toward revitalizing Pakistan–Myanmar relations and reinforcing diplomatic channels between the two countries in a rapidly evolving regional and global landscape.
