Pakistan, Bangladesh move to deepen economic, trade cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, October 28, 2025 (WNP): Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant (State Minister, Ministry of Finance) to the Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Minister of State for Finance and Railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani, at the Ministry of Finance in a significant step toward revitalizing bilateral economic ties.

The meeting centered on enhancing economic collaboration, expanding bilateral trade, and strengthening financial and transport linkages between the two South Asian nations. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering long-term economic growth and development for the mutual benefit of their peoples.

Key areas discussed included boosting trade volumes, cooperation in the energy and financial sectors, and improving connectivity, particularly through the resumption of direct flights to enhance people-to-people exchanges and business linkages.

The talks also underscored the importance of institutional coordination and policy alignment to facilitate investment and promote sustainable economic growth.

The Bangladesh delegation included Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan; Md. Tayub Ali, Counsellor (Press); and Ms. Israt Jahan, Counsellor (Political) & Head of Chancery. From the Pakistani side, Dr. Hasan Muhammad Mohsin, Economic Advisor at the Ministry of Finance, participated in the discussions.

 

Officials described the visit as a constructive and forward-looking engagement, aimed at revitalizing the economic, trade, and investment partnership between Pakistan and Bangladesh — marking another step toward regional economic integration and cooperation.
