WASHINGTON, Friday, April 10, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has underscored the significance of ongoing diplomatic efforts leading to the Islamabad talks, expressing confidence that the process offers a viable path toward regional peace and stability.

Speaking in an interview with Kristen Welker on NBC’s Meet the Press, the ambassador said extensive and “intense diplomatic effort” by Pakistan and its international partners had helped bring the situation to a constructive stage, with delegations already arriving or en route to Islamabad.

He noted that countries including Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt had played an important supporting role, alongside broader international engagement aimed at facilitating dialogue between the conflicting parties.

“The talks are very much on the cards,” he said, adding that any outstanding issues could be addressed once both sides sit together and engage in detailed discussions.

Highlighting the importance of honoring prior understandings, the ambassador stressed that commitments made during the lead-up to the talks would have a “salutary impact” on both the process and its outcomes.

He emphasized that the most encouraging aspect of the current phase was the “constructive spirit” demonstrated by both sides, noting that their willingness to participate reflected confidence in the Islamabad process.

Describing Pakistan’s role as a facilitator, the envoy said Islamabad’s objective was to bring the parties together and support dialogue, while any final resolution would ultimately depend on the parties themselves.

“In diplomacy, if both sides walk away with an equal measure of comfort or discomfort, negotiations are considered successful,” he remarked, adding that Pakistan stands ready to offer assistance if requested.

The ambassador further revealed that Pakistan’s leadership had received widespread international support, including numerous calls from global counterparts backing the peace initiative.

Referring to the ongoing ceasefire, he said the commitment by Donald Trump and the Iranian leadership to pursue dialogue had created space for diplomacy, which must now be utilized effectively.

He expressed optimism that if the process succeeds, it could mark a turning point, reducing the need for further escalation and opening the door to a negotiated settlement.

The Islamabad talks, being closely watched worldwide, are seen as a critical test of diplomacy amid heightened regional tensions.
