Islamabad–Ankara move to deepen strategic partnership, boost economic engagement

ISLAMABAD, Thursday, February 19, 2026 (WNP): Advisor to the Chairman Senate, Misbah Khar on Thursday held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Pakistan, Irfan Neziroglu, at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad, reaffirming the two countries’ commitment to expanding economic and strategic cooperation.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, with particular focus on enhancing trade and investment ties. The prevailing regional situation and other matters of mutual interest were also discussed in detail, reflecting the close diplomatic coordination between the two longstanding partners.

Misbah Khar lauded Ambassador Neziroglu’s proactive role in strengthening the historic and brotherly ties between Islamabad and Ankara. She noted that Pakistan and Türkiye share a relationship rooted in common history, cultural affinity and mutual trust, which provides a solid foundation for expanding economic collaboration.

Highlighting the untapped potential in bilateral trade, she stressed the need for concrete measures to boost trade volumes, facilitate business-to-business linkages and promote joint ventures in priority sectors. She emphasized stronger cooperation in trade, investment, information technology, infrastructure development, energy and defence production, underscoring that enhanced economic engagement would yield tangible benefits for the people of both nations.

Khar also underlined the importance of increasing people-to-people contacts and parliamentary exchanges to further consolidate economic and strategic partnerships.

Ambassador Neziroglu reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and expanding economic ties. Expressing optimism about the future trajectory of trade and investment relations, he conveyed his best wishes to Yousaf Raza Gillani and congratulated Misbah Khar on the successful organization of the ISC Conference in Pakistan.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to enhance trade and investment for shared prosperity and reiterated their resolve to elevate Pakistan–Türkiye relations to new heights through sustained economic collaboration and strategic partnership.

Pakistan and Türkiye have long maintained close diplomatic, political and defence ties, with both governments increasingly focusing on geo-economic cooperation as a central pillar of their bilateral relationship.
